Fareway Stores Inc. will collaborate with Alliant Energy to install a solar energy facility on a 6-acre site near the grocer’s campus in the Boone Industrial Park. The facility will produce 1 megawatt of energy, and will help Alliant Energy accelerate its goal to eliminate all of its coal generation by 2040 and achieve net-zero carbon dioxide emissions from electricity it generates by 2050. Fareway CEO Reynolds Cramer said the partnership with Alliant is another way Fareway can help create positive change in the environment and bring clean energy to the communities it serves. Alliant Energy will oversee construction of the solar facility and will own, operate and maintain it. The facility is expected to be operational by the end of 2022. Construction will be contingent on survey results, permitting, regulator changes and equipment supply, the company said.
